WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
The substancehyaluronic acidis moisture-absorbing and occurs naturally in the body to help the skin’s elasticity and collagen formation. It is aglycosaminoglycan,an importantcomponentin connective tissue. Hyaluronic acid, relative to its mass, has a large capacity to bind with water (up to six litres of waters per gram)
Beginning at age 25, the body begins to produce less hyaluronic acid causing the skin to lose elasticity and resilience and thus, wrinklesbegin to form.
Hyaluronic acidis made with the help of biotechnology, which means that the possibility of an allergic reaction to animal-based egg whites is avoided. Since the 1980shyaluronic acid has been used by the cosmetics industry and was first sold as a serum. Similarly to current hyaluronic acid- containing creams, these products were applied to the skin. The effects of these superficial treatments were short lived because the skin could not absorb the large molecules and therefore they remained on the skin’s surface. Today’s creams and moisturisers that contain hyaluronic acid, have evolved in the meantime so as to be dividable into small fragments such that the skin can better absorb them.
TREATMENT WITH HYALURONIC ACID
Targeted injections of hyaluronic acid are used for wrinkle treatmentin the mid and deep layers of skin. In these locations the substance can have longer lasting effects, depending on the type and location of the wrinkles. Subcutaneous skin injections of hyaluronic acidhave a large capacity to bind with moisture. Through this process the skin is lifted, whereby wrinkles are mitigated or even eliminated and a the goal of young looking skin is achieved.
FOR WHAT TYPES OF WRINKLES IS HYALURONIC ACID USED?
The traditional area of treatmentfor wrinkles using hyaluronic acid is the bottom third of the face, including: nasolabial wrinkles (between the nose and mouth), mentolabial wrinkles (between the mouth and chin), upper lip wrinkles (smoker’s lines) and thechin area.
However, hyaluronic acid can be used on upper face areas such as eye wrinkles (crow’s feet), forehead wrinklesand thecheeks as well.
In order to achieve more volume, hyaluronic acid injections can be used in the lips and for the moulding of other areas.

You should avoid saunas, direct sunlight and solariums to protect your skin.
