Treatment details
What happens during a liposuction surgery?
The removal of fat or liposuction involves selectively removing fat from tissue. Problem areas are focused on in order to mould the body into an ideal, natural shape. Particularly, the fat deposits of the hips, stomach, ankles, torso and under the chin yield excellent results when treated.
Our expert doctors for plastic and aesthetic surgery use mild vibration suction that gently shakes out the fat from the tissue, which is then sucked out using very fine needles.
Typical areas of treatment are the outer upper thighs (“saddlebags”) as well as the stomach and waistline (“spare tyre”). Fat in the chin area (“double chin”) or neck (“turkey neck”) back, upper arms, knees, ankles and calves and male breast tissue, can also be gently moulded (see also upper arm / thigh lift and gynaecomasty).

liposuction - Common questions

Where is liposuction carried out?
A liposuction is done on an out-patient or in-patient basis, depending on what is indicated, and is carried out by our specialists in plastic and cosmetic surgery in our very modern clinic. It can be performed under local anaesthesia, or so-called tumescent local anaesthesia. For major surgeries, general anaesthesia is required. The best options for the patient will be explained by our doctors in an extensive consultation.
What do I need to be aware of after the procedure?
After the liposuction the patient receives a special compression garment, which should be worn for four weeks in order to tighten the skin. You can easily return to normal activity after one to three days. For up to two weeks after your liposuction,a slight stinging, similar to a muscle ache, may occur. During this period, strenuous activity and lifting should be avoided. Swelling of the affected area is normal after a liposuction, just as with any operation. This will go away completely within three months.
The final result of a liposuction surgery is achieved after two to six months, once the swelling has subsided and the skin has reached an optimal level of tautness.
