What happens during a breast reduction?
If there is only an excess of skin, for example after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or connective tissue weaknesses, the breast can be tightened. For breast reduction and breast lift, largely identical incisions are selected. While breast lifting primarily involves a reduction of the excess skin and possibly the mammary gland. Breast reduction mainly removes breast glands and fatty tissue.

Breast reduction methods
The surgeon can choose from several different cutting techniques for breast reduction. Which technique is most appropriate for the patient must be decided individually with our highly qualified doctors. Breast reduction is performed under anaesthesia and as an in-patient procedure in our state-of-the-art Schlossklinik. After the breasts have been reduced, each patient receives a special support bra, which must be worn for 8 weeks. The result of a breat reduction is commonly durable. However, if you had a breast reduction, the skin tissue may sag after a certain period of time as part of the normal aging process.

Where is breast reduction performed?
Each breast reduction is performed in our modern M1 Schlossklinik Berlin and in our M1 Specialist Centre in Frankfurt. Our highly qualified specialists for plastic and aesthetic surgery perform the operation under general anesthesia.
How long does the healing process for a breast reduction take?
The entire healing period varies from patient to patient and depends on the physical condition and the individual lifestyle of each person. The entire healing process can therefore take up to 12 months. As a rule, however, women who have had their breasts reduced can resume their light work 2 weeks after breast reduction.
What has to be considered after a breast reduction?
As after every surgical procedure, the following applies after breast reduction: Rest your body! Especially in the first few weeks after the breast reduction, feelings of tension will occur in the breast, as skin and tissue have to adapt to the changed size. For this reason, women who have had a reduction of the breasts must rest for at least 2 weeks and completely avoid sports for over 3 months.
The sleeping position is also essential for women after breast reduction. If you have had your breast reduced, you may only sleep on your back after the procedure. Sleeping on the stomach is only permitted again 6 weeks after the operation.
